We must start this entry with a big middle finger to Jake Rossen at Sherdog.com. Now, for those of you who know me, you must have observed my passionate yet subdued personality. I am NOT on the anti-Zuffa, Sherdog.com screw-Dana White bandwagon. I do, however, call it as I see it, and that means if I see something or hear something that I personally find wrong or completely moronic I will have to say something about it…

Is Japanese MMA Still Relevant?

The standing philosophy of Japanese promotions can be boiled down to this: put everything in a box, shake it, and dump whatever comes out.

For years, that disorganization was a small price to pay for the kind of spectacle and excitement high-ticket fighters could provide. Pride was looming over the UFC, allegedly home to more talented athletes; there was legitimate debate over whether fighters overseas could come to dominate the cash-strapped U.S. promotions. We never really got much of an answer — all the major players came to the States after their prime — but it helped feed the notion that overseas MMA was exotic and “special.”
